The winners of the inaugural Frontier Design Prize announced
Design Innovation Institute Shanghai (DIIS) announced the winners of the inaugural Frontier Design Prize (FDP) during the World Design Cities Conference. Frontier Design Prize (FDP) is a visionary, innovative, world-class international design award. It is established under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Government and undertaken by the Design Innovation Institute Shanghai.
Frontier Design Prize has three categories: 1. Distinguished Contribution, 2. Innovation of the Year, and 3. Innovation of the Year (K-12). FDP is the first International Design prize to recognize the work of K-12 students.
With an impressive international and domestic jury panel, this award rewards and recognizes outstanding personalities and works of design that have made a pioneering contribution to the design field with far-reaching international influence. The nomination process is unique and through a nominator who is carefully chosen.
This year’s winners are:
Innovation of the Year- Mi Ecosystem
Distinguished Contribution- Donald Arthur Norman
Innovation of the Year (K-12)
- Modular Garbage Front-end Processor Combination
- Reducing Gender Based Violence in Sierra Leone
Prof. Lou Yongqi, the Chairman of the FDP committee said, “Frontier Design Prize is a very unique international design award that recognizes the individuals and works that had paradigm-shift contribution to design in a large scale. We invited an impressive international and domestic jury members, also developed an AI assisted evaluation system to visualize the impacts of the nominees.”
